Description
This 1953 Buick Super Estate Woody Wagon is that rare kind of car that evokes wonder in all who behold it. A Harley Earl design introduced on the occasion of Buick's fiftieth anniversary, the Super Estate featured the first Buick V-8 engine and the first 12-volt electrical system. It was also the very last of the American ''woody'' station wagons. Serial number 16961907, this show-winning 1953 Buick Super Estate Wagon is an award winner on the national stage, taking AACA National Junior honors in 2004, the Senior Award at the 2005 AACA National Fall Meet in Hershey, Pennsylvania and a nomination that same year for outstanding vehicle in the show year. It has been kept in a private collection and exercised sparingly. The car is still capable of winning shows; even the undercarriage is detailed and in better than factory condition. The 1953 Buick Estate Wagon was the last wood-bodied car manufactured in the U.S.A. One of 1,830 Series 59 editions built, this car is fitted with body number 1266, one of many wood bodies manufactured by Ionia for Buick Motor Division. Utilizing Ash for the main body sections, Mahogany panels and Dynoc door inserts, it is painted in code 53-78 Victoria Maroon Metallic manufactured by Ditzler Color Division and finished inside with code 53-99 imitation Tan leather. Equipped with the new 322/164 HP V-8 ''Nailhead'' engine and turbine-smooth Dynaflow automatic transmission, this wonderful Buick woody also offers a 12 volt electrical system, power steering and brakes, AM radio and in-ash clock and Buick Skylark chromed wire wheels with wide Whitewalls. This award-winning example of genuine postwar Americana deserves the respect of anyone who catches sight of it at a concurs event.
